DFI Day 1 - 14 March 2019

What did I learn that increased my understanding of Manaiakalani kaupapa and pedagogy?

I had heard quite a lot about Manaiakalani at college through various presentations to our whole staff. There was some revision about the Learn, Create, Share and we have worked through this today.

What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow as a professional?

An easier way to create posters using Google docs. I learnt how to make a background, hide a table and use a table to centre text and images. I also learnt the difference between Google groups and Contacts groups. I will be setting up a google group for the PPTA members at college. I had set up groups through my contacts and they had disappeared.

What did I learn that could be used with my learners?

That an underline is a link and not to be used. How to format text using Titles, Headers, etc. This will be helpful for any work done online

What did I learn that could improve my confidence, capability or workflow in my personal life?

I am interested in learning how to set up a personal account in my gmail so that I can access personal files.

  1. I also heard about Manaiakalani a few years ago. Just didn't know the name. I loved the use a table in poster tip as well. I was quite surprised about the underline rules now, but it does make sense and is something I need to remember too. Looking forward to next week

  2. Kia ora Joanna,

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I find even though I've heard the Manaiakalani origin story a few times now, I always pick up on something new. Well done for grabbing Google Groups and running with it. I hope the new group you have set up today is helpful. If you would like help creating a personal gmail account let me know next week and we can work through it.

  3. Kia ora Joanna. I loved remove.bg. too. I spent way too much time playing with this application. I'm super keen to see how you might use tech in your Music class. I relieved for a music class once. Broke all the rules and made students use their phones to record their music and capture notes on the whiteboard.
